View Full Version : automatic gain control while recording?

I would like to set up an un-attended laptop to record a show.
Is there any software for windows that has automatic gain control or limiter
functionality while recording in real time? Or any other heuristic that
mimics a human operator?
I have used audacity, goldwave, audition. None of them has agc or limiter in
real time recording.

If you are recording an external source you may want to try this
device:

With 24 bits of dynamic range, why do you need to do it in recording?
Just get a nice quiet preamp and good converters. Ask the band for the
loudest sound they can make, and set that for -12 dBFS. Then go do
whatever you need to do.

Indeed, this is exactly how I do multi-track recordings
of groups in which I am one of the performers.

That's a good idea. I'll try.
