I have an mp3 player the size of a roll of film that records. You'd think
that something as big as my palm would have room for 1/4" jacks.

Do you have an Iriver? or something else..

I have a few Iriver IFPs with line in record (3.5mm) and I am looking
for an alternative.

I have a little creative zen nano, it has the tiny line in as well, and 1
gb. I paid about fifty bucks for it, but it's discontinued as far as I know.
There's a new zen with a bigger screen that may have a line in as well.

At least some of the iaudio devices have a 3.5 line in.
