I bought a shure 87 beta a yera ago. I find myself mostly using it to
record. Is there a large diaphram mic, or any other mic that's more studio
oriented (for vocals), around $300, that would give my voice a better sound?
That way it would free up the 87 beta for mic'ing the pa i play my guitar
through.
Thanks,
-Adam

How should we know? We've never heard your voice. We don't even know what
register you sing in.

Go out and listen to your voice through some mikes. Don't listen to what
other folks say because their voice is different than yours.

Don't go to music stores, go to a pro audio store. Honestly, you're dropping
money down on something that is very personal. You wouldn't buy a car without
test-driving it would you? You should never buy anything as expensive and
subjective as a microphone without a test drive either.
A lot of mail-order places will even let you audition gear by mail with a
credit-card deposit, although for the most part that's going to be for more
expensive stuff.
