be used for Subwoofer Preout into amp cable? They're just RCA cables

If there RCA cables on the back of the head unit for a CD changer, then
there are inputs, not outputs. you could use them to input a ipod or similar

this cable was from an earlier installation where i had a sony head
unit and a cd changer. i dont currently use these cables but i'm
getting a new head unit with 3 preamp outs including one for the sub. i
thought i could use it from my head's preamp out to the subwoofer input
on my amp rather than going to buy a monster cable.

Then yes, that should work just fine.
