I have had this radio for about a year now. At night I am distracted by the
display which goes from dim to brighter by itself. I have tried adjusting
the brightness settings and would like the display to stay at one level. any
help would be appreciated. Great sounding radio with xm but the display is
annoying the heck out of me.

Is there a warranty with your head unit? Is it still active? Sounds
like there might be a malfunction with some of the electrical work in
the unit. Best bet would be (if it is still under warranty) to send it
back and get another one or just trade it in if it bothers you that
much... If you didn't do anything to the wires then it is probably the
head unit itself, something that regular people can't fix.

If this radio has a detachable face, the contacts may be dirty / not
getting a good connection. Clean these with a pencil eraser.
Also, pull the radio out of the slot and check the wires to make sure
that they all are all insulated properly. All connections should be
taped up if butt splices or crimp caps were not used.
The concern here is that there is a dimmer wire coming out of the back
of the radio. It is normally orange and may have a black or white
stripe on it. If this wire touches ground (simulating a negative
trigger that the headlight switch gives it) the display will dim.
This wire is rarely used. If it is connected in your vehicle, try
disconnecting it. The problem could be with the vehicle dimmer wire
going to the radio.

Would this also apply if the headlight switch was in the off position and
the display kept changing it's intensity or the dimmer switch in the radio
was turned off? Happy New Year from New Hampshire

I took the radio out and checked all the connections including the wiring
harness connections between the adapter and my 04 Dodge Ram truck. They were
all secure and in good order. If you have the same radio would you watch
the display screen and push the entertainment button and see if your display
contains moving images that appear to go back and forth from a steady
intensity then get brighter than go back the way it was... Thanks Howard.
