I recenlty got some new speakers and was just wondering wether I should
put some sort of polyfill or should take the insulation from an old
pair of telefunkens (scrapped). Ive seen the same inulation thing done
in my friends volvo, which sounds terrific for a 96 stock system. I was
thinking since it is a 96 and the amp is rather not the greatest it
would be all the matting that gave him all the great low end bass, or
possibly the speakers?

Damping takes away all those resonant high frequencies, that muddle
up the sound, and it will make it sound like you have more bass.

Anything you put in your door will get wet....or, to use your word
"dampened"...because water rolls down the window and into the door. So,
I would *not* recommend putting polyfill in your doors--it'll just wind
up being a rust-causing wad of soaked polyester fibers at the bottom of
your door.
The best thing you can do for your door speakers is to mount them to a
baffle of high mass and low resonance (i.e. a piece of MDF), and to
make sure there are no air leaks between the door's interior and the
listening space. But alas, this is easier said than done.
