Hey all,
How are you?

I have a serious dilemma. In the past few weeks I'm looking for a
receiver to attach to my
home-recording environment. I just want to direct the output of my pc
through the Receiver.
All I need from the amplifier is to amplfy stereo, I'm not looking for
an home-theater receiver..

My first though was that I must buy a Stereo receiver. However, then I
found out that most
the home-theater sorround receivers enable you to "turn off" the
sorround, and work as stereo.

My quesetion is - So why people would buy a stereo amplifier, if the
sorround one enables stereo and can be baught for approximately the
same price?

I'd also like to receive any kind of suggestions of the amplifier I
should buy. I'm currently digging
Harmon Kardo for fitting model..

Thanks alot, in advance,
Eyal.

Some might be bothered by the thought of those extra amp channels going
to waste. The relative simplicity of the stereo receiver with no
expensive DAC could mean higher quality parts for the same price. One
might worry about the complexity of a surround receiver compromising
sound quality due to noise, layout problems, digital complications such
as unnecessary A to D to A conversion, etc.

You might look for a receiver with a USB input if you don't have a good
soundcard. I think JVC has several models. Otherwise, Onkyo is often
mentioned here for good quality at low prices.

Actually the "champ" in this field of modern stereo receivers right now is
the Outlaw.

There are in fact very few stereo receivers left on the market. However,
decent ones can be had for far less than comparable surround receivers.
