Greetings. ... Been out of the hi(gher) end audio thing since the mid
1990' but never lost my love for music. ... Finances dictated my
abscence, and perhaps my love for music and being a working musician
for the last decade dictated my finances !!!
Anyway I have changed carrers and finally have a bit of disposable
income. ... I have decided to speparate my audio system into two. ...
One for TV (5.1 Channel) and the other for music (2 channel only).
Problem is I only have 1 Sub. ... It is a Mirage from the 1990's.
.... Decided to leave it in the Home Theatre system.
I have decided to turn one of my rooms upstairs into a listening room.
... Room is not overly huge but will do the job. Here is currently
what I have for equipment: (Don't laugh as it is from the 1990's.)
1 Anthem (Tube) pre amp with phono stage.
1 Nakamichi PA7 II Power Amp
1 Rega Planar 3 Turntable. ... Benz Micro Silver MC pick up (My main
source)
1 Cambridge Audio CD Player. (Forget Model)
1 Sony Mini Disc Deck (... Yes I know ... Not Hi End but have a unit
in the truck too ! ... Boy did that turn out to be the 8 Track of the
Millenium !!!)
Speakers or Magnepan MG 2.2's (I think. ... They are 2 point
somethings ... I know that).
I am looking for a decent sub to pair up with these speakers. .. I
would be running from my pre to the sub then to the power so a Low and
High pass filter are a must. ... I live in a town where we don't have
any real stereo stores so I would be buying this unit mail order on a
wing and a prayer. ... Looked at the Velodyne units that Future Shop
sell, but these aren't like the Velodyne units I remember in the past.
I would like to stay under the $1500 (CND) mark. ... Been looking at
the Velodyne, Sunfire and M & K. Websites ... Any suggestions,
opinions or comments on experiences people have had with these
companies would be great !
Cheers
Chris.
BTW ... I listen to literally EVERYTHING. ... Good music is good music
regardless of the Genre.
(I play Bach Fugues on a pipe organ Sunday morning. ... Guitar in a
blues band Saturday nights, and keyboards/guitar in a Death metal /
Folk metal band for fun).
