View Full Version : Kendwood KDC-X890 Won't Play CD's
Hey Gang,
Anyone have problems with their Kenwood not playing ANY cd's? Mine is
brand new, just installed about 6 hours ago. It won't play CD-R or
purchased CD's. According to the specs it should play damn near
everything. Does anyone have a solution to this one? Could it be
something with the wiring? All of the speakers are run through amps,
so the only connection on the deck is the power/switched power/ ground/
and amp remote.
BTW, it is installed in an 89 full size bronco.
Thanks!!
Does the radio work? If it does it should work just fine.
I have the 889, which is last years model of your deck and everything
is awesome on it. I cant think of anything that would be wrong even.
Yeah, the radio is fine. Eveything BUT the cd player works. As soon
as you load it, it flashes 'reading' then 'loading' then spits it back
out. I went so far as to purchase a new CD to try with it and even
that didn't work. I'm pretty frustrated with it. Is there some magic
button you have to press on new units to get them to take CD's? It
won't even read the demo disc that came with the unit!

Hmmm...a shipping screw. Maybe, I didn't see that addressed in the
users manual, and I didn't notice anything on the chasis (like a
sticker or marking). I'll pull it out and have another look.
When it says "Reading" that is only for a split second, it gives one
blink then it flashes "Loading". I really doubt it is actually reading
anything. I'm going to try a lens cleaner on it, I don't know why a
new unit would have a dirty lens but it's worth a shot.

Update:
Tried cleaning the lens but no joy. I'll pull it out and look for a
shipping screw this evening. Anyone else have any ideas?
