Does anyone else read this ng just for the flames?

I have a glancing interest in tube amps, but minimal technical
knowledge or skills. I tune in here from time to time to enjoy the
flame wars. There are some very interesting characters involved (only a
handful of whom I'd ever want to talk with in person.) It's kind of
like watching Siamese fighting fish go at it. You don't really care who
wins--you just want to enjoy the utterly pointless posturing and the
brilliant show of colors.

I have to agree that there is a definite soap opera draw to the conflict
that goes on here as well as many other Usenet groups. Its amazing what
people will come up with sometimes. I wonder how many sociology / psychology
term papers have been written about Usenet.

http://www.diyaudio.com is a great place for info, and is pretty much
garbage-free. I've gotten more useful tech info there than ever on
this ng.
I got a schematic for an Adcom amp in order to fix my brotherinlaw's
amp within one day from someone in Scandanavia on diyaudio. I posted
here, to no avail.(I send out schematics to others as well).
http://www.audioasylum.com is pretty good, also.

This ng used to be great about 5 years ago, but so much negative
nit-picking and flaming goes on here now, most have left and gone
elsewhere.

Actually, appearances can be deceptive. You will find if you actually
need tube-related help, that the core members of this group are both
well informed and helpful. There are also a large number who come
here for a knockabout. You have no doubt noticed one who has
posted four times in your thread. You will soon learn who is who:-)

Unfortunately, from my observation, the core is much smaller than in
the past. I believe many knowledgable posters have left the ng over
the years because of the steady increase of flaming.
