Why can't I use existing wires to wire up my Blaupunkt?

I've just bought a 2nd hand Blaupunkt stereo (a London RDM 104) which
even includes the fitting instructions (a 1st for me). Said
instructions say DO NOT use the positive/negative system comnnectors in
the vehicle.

It tells me to instead route the positive wire to the +ve battery
terminal, and the negative straight to ground. But surely that's what
the existing cables do anyway...? That's what I've always used anyway.
Is this Blaupunkt something special. Any help appreciated, before I
disobey and risk blowing the thing up...?

Unless someone knows something specific about the Blaupunkts, I see
absolutley no reason why you can't use the existing wires. I've done that
many times (never owned a Blau) without a problem. You may still connect
the ground directly to metal if you experience any noise problems.

Usually if a stereo manufacturer tells you to run a dedicated power
wire to the battery, they make a mention of a wire guage minimum as
well. (eg. some dvd head units require a minimum 10g power wire) The
reason they tell you to do this is because the particular deck may be a
little more power hungry than your factory wires can handle. It is
mainly due to a "powerful" internal amplifier for the speaker level
outputs. If your deck will be connected to amplifiers (via RCA cables)
and you will not be using the speaker level outputs, the upgrade to the
power wires will not be needed. Just make sure your deck provides the
option of turning off the internal amplifier. Hope this helps.

This is true. Some receivers "require" a direct connection to the battery.
I don't know enough about Blaupunkt decks, but I suspect they're run-of-mill
in terms of power requirements. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry,
but I highly suspect using the stock power wire will be just fine.

Thanks for all the advice. I've since seen a few other similar threads
here debating the pros and cons. I don't think this is a high power
unit, so I'll trust the existing wiring.

I'll second this.

I've talked to several installers at Car Toys and they also feel the same
way. Marketing gimmick.

My last HU was a V-Drive (7863) and I had it in two different cars and just
used the existing stock power wires, no problems at all.
