If you have a few minutes to kill you might get a kick out of this.

I found it on the always-entertaining MetaFilter.

Gives a new meaning to SUB-woofer!

(Apologies if it's been posted previously).

Hmm... pretty dismal recording setup for such an elaborate "listening room"
Is it me or does it seem like this setup would suffer from massive floor
transmission?

I love the fact that they've got this bazillion dollar freakazoid
audiophile speaker rig, and then in the "studio recording" photo they
proudly point out the Tascam 244 PortaStudio!

Hey Rob,

Gives new meaning to Stoopid. Also gives new meaning to more money than
brains. :->)

That has been posted before BTW, and my reaction then was the same as now.
It's a fun curiosity though. But what a HUGE amount of cost and effort, when
a few top of the line SVS subwoofers inside the room is all anyone needs.

Perhaps 16- 18 inch woofers would do fairly well by themselves. If one were trying
to break down walls, then horns are pretty neat. That system though, should
deliver low distorted bass, but a servo subwoofer can also do a good
job. I could see one or two 18 inch drivers being used, but why 8 per side, and
WHY stereo?

And they want to put the Italians in charge of the Internation

Might work, though. The sight and sound of a few Ferrari's
and Maserati's has been known to change quite a few young
men's hearts and minds...

WRT this big project, why does everyone who's posted find
a need to criticize it? It's a personal gig, just somebody
trying to do something interesting to himself. Ain't no big
religious thang. How tight-assed have we all become?

And, as the sainted Goldwater said "Extremism in the defense
of liberty is no vice". Gotta be true for monitoring, and
anybody that says otherwise is just jealous! Or cheap! Or
something...

Just my personally embittered vacuous thoughts, arf!

Much thanks, as always,

Good point. Our bad.

Here's a relevant quote:
