View Full Version : My KEF Amplifier is blowing my Hafler 7000 away!!!!!!!
I have been driving my NS10's from an old Yamaha amplifier for years.
Sounded fine to me.... A few months ago when I purchased a Hafler 7000
I figured it would kill!! But to my surprise, the difference my barely
noticeable...
Then, a few weeks ago I got a KEF K-300 amplifier as part of an auction
package deal....well...this amp, which I have never heard of before,
simply destroyed the Hafler! Much more power and much tighter bass.....
As anyone heard of this KEF stuff? I'm trying to find information on
this, but having no luck....
Also, I wonder if this used Hafler is working properly?
Peace

I've mixed about 400 albums on a pair of KEF 103.2 speakers. They are
spectrally accurate, unhyped, detailed, & three-dimensional. IOW
everything that most "studio monitors" are not. Yes, KEF is good
British audiophile gear. What you are hearing is what distinguishes
high end audiophile-level gear from mass market, Chinese manufactured
(I believe), middle of the road gear.

Scott,
Would you rate Bryston amp in the same category as KEF.

The Hafler 7000 was made in the U.S. This is a very lean, clean, amplifier.
But speakers must be carefully matched with amplifiers. The 7000 is probably
not a good match for your speakers.

Dave:
Can't say, because I've not used KEF amps, just the speakers. My KEFs
are driven by Bryston, though.

KEF amplifiers, unlike KEF speakers, are very rare in the USA. I don't think
I've even seen one, never mind heard one.

Here's the thing: I just got a pair of JBL LSR6332 which I soffit
mounted.
Since I already had the KEF hooked up to the NS10's I figured i'd try
the Hafler on the LSR's. Now with both amps on full, when I A-B the
LSR vs NS10, the volume is lower on the JBLs.... The JBLs sound amazing
but then again I haven't heard them with the KEF yet.... Although I'm a
little reluctant to take the KEF off of the NS10s because they never
sounded so good.
So now, I wonder if I should look at something else to drive the
JBLs....Anyone have any recommendations for the LSR6332?

This much is irrelevant. Amplifier gains vary, as do speaker
sensitivities.

Of course, if you have the money. It's simple for you to try the KEF
amplifier on the JBLs so you should definitely give that a listen. If
you like it, will you go out and buy another KEF amplfier?
What do you want us to tell you? We're easy. <g>

Well yes if It were that easy to spend the cash I would probably go out
and buy a Bryston 4BSST!

I got lucky on this purchase, but I doubt I'll even find another....

Not too sure, i guess I'd like to hear some recommendations for the
LSR. All that JBL states is this: "150 W - 1000W (rating into 4-ohm
load)"
