View Full Version : Applying a stereo flange pedal during mixdown.

I did some recording in my studio to be mixed at another studio at a
later date. I recorded everything dry, including the guitar parts that
are usually flanged. I was doing a rough mix for fun, and thought I
might try adding the stereo flange pedal I have for those parts.

The pedal has a stereo output, but a mono input. Is there anyway that I
can apply it stereo to two seperate guitar tracks at the same time? In
other words, each side of the stereo flange would be going to it's own,
dedicated guitar track. I don't think it's possible with the mono
input, is it?

Not really, if it has only one input. But what you could do is mix the
two tracks togeher and send them out to the pedal on a single output.
Then record the stereo output of the pedal and incorporate the flange
of the sum of the tracks into your final mix.

Hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

You can try to do something weird....
Encode your stereo track to M/S, then flange the S (or the M if you like)
Then encode back to LR and see what happen....

Sure. Make a submix of the two guitar tracks, then run them to the level
box and to the flanger. Flange them both at the same time. Return the
stereo output back to the console with the level box.
