Well, I sold off all my analog CV equipment with intent to set up a
digital audio workstation controlled by my laptop. I have software
sequencers and synths lined up, but I am still in the market for a MIDI
keyboard and a controller or two. In addition, my laptop's soundcard is
not exactly fit for the job of driving my amps, so I'm also looking for
a USB or FireWire audio interface with a few 1/4" inputs and outputs.
So lately I've been trying to sort out an economical and expandable
solution for all this. Here's what I know I want:
- a simple 2 octave keyboard with piano-like keys preferably
- a controller with lots of assingable knobs and faders, and a few
triggers
- no unbearable latency
- output to drive my amp
- moderate expandability
I'd like to stay under $500. I know things like the X-Station may be
able to handle all of the above but I'd rather buy dedicated units for
the sake of modularity. I was looking at the M-Audio UC-33e or a
Behringer BCF-2000 for a MIDI controller. I'm sort of in the dark when
it comes to the keyboard and the audio interface though.
Your suggestions are greatly appreciately!
