View Full Version : problem with m-audio audiophile 192 - help
can someone help me please - should the master volume in the monitor
mixer tab on the delta control panel be greyed out? when i hover the
pointer over the volume sliders i get a balloon pop up saying
'disabled'. i've looked everywhere for the answer but everyone else
experiencing this problem seems to have sound issues as well but my
sound is fine.
i've also got all options greyed out on the patchbay/router tab except
for just 4 in the H/W Out S/PDIF column. don't know if this is normal
either.
i've called m-audio uk support twice now who have assured me that this
is how it should be, as the control panel is generic to all m-audio
cards and different cards use different features. trouble is both times
i've talked to a guy who sounds half cut & doesn't make much sense.
last time he told me to bear with him as he'd just got back from the
pub! i kid you not.
it just seems odd to have the master volume controls knocked out.
any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have an m-audio Delta Audiophile 2496 in my PC, with m-Audio Delta
Control panel, logging as:
driver version:5.10.00.0046
panel version: 1.03.17 - 2.2.00
My Monitor mixer Master volue active.

On this tab I have 5 (not 4) non-greys in the first (H/W Out 1/2) column
and the same five non-grey in H/W Out S/PDIF. All other entries on this
tab are grey.
Putting the two together, it seems the control panel does not thing you
have analog out active--as I don't think volume control is applicable to
S/PDIF out.
Just for comparison, my current settings are:
Monitor/Mixer tab:
all faders set to max (0.0) save the pair of H/W In 1/2 pair which are
set to min (-144). No mutes checked save that both of the H/W In 1/2 are
checked. All Stereo Links checked save that neither is check for H/W In
1/2. The H/w installed box has the #1 AP entry non-grey and black--the
other three are grey.
Patchbay/Router tab:
H/W Out 1/2 has the radio button on "Monitor Mixer".
H/W Out S/PDIF has the black dot on Monitor Mixer.
The five top entries for these two are active, all others in all columns
are grey.
Hardware Settings tag:
Master clock: Internal Xtal (Locked indicator is lit)
Codel sample rate--nothing active at the moment (I am not providing
input)
S/PDIF sample rate: all grey
MultiTrack Driver Devices: Single and In-Sync radio button is selected
Variable Signal levels: Outputs: Consumer is selected
DMA buffer size: 512 sample
Asio/Easi Options: disable audio app use of Monitor mixer and
Patchbay/Router is checked.
Input channel Phase + 180: neither box is checked.
S/PDIF tab:
Digital Output Format: Consumer radio button is selected
Digital Input: S/PDIF SIGNAL: Invalid but not present
Coax is grey, but Coax is selected
Comments:
With no analog output showing in Patchbay, it makes sense you have no
master volume in mixer--there I don't think the volume control applies to
S/PDIF out.
Is it possible you are running Asio or Easi--my settings appear to imply
that if I did the mixer and Patchbay stuff would disable.
I just thought you might find it interesting to compare--not claiming
mine is a Platonic correct example for your case.

Yes, on the Audiophile 192 the Master Volume
is grayed out.

That's correct.

I think this depends on what options you've selected elsewhere. I seem to
recall that there's a check box to completely bypass the monitor mixer,
which defaults to bypass.

It is true that M-Audio uses the same basic driver for about a jillion
different cards with different hardware features.

No, its pretty normal. It costs noticable money to implement an attenuator
that would not hurt the basic performance of an audio interface as good as
the AP 24192.
ok thanks for all your help. i feel better than after talking to the
drunk scottish fella at m-audio uk 'support'!

Sounds like he still answered a simple question correctly though :-)
