That's too bad :(

I've heard Maynard several times live and he never failed to put on a
great show.

FWIW I feel his version of "Birdland" is the best one out there.
Those trumpet riffs at the very end are incredible.

I'm gonna spin a couple of Maynard disks tonight for him....

I had a guy in the studio tonight that used to play with maynard. He
told us he got the call this morning. He also said that he could not
believe maynard lived that long.

Maynard apparently used to set up his bottles of what not before during
and after the show, but never missed a note. He is someone not easily
replaced. Seems like the majority of the young players got the
partying part down, but the musicianship side is not up to the same
level as the old cats.

Love all his stuff :) starting off as a trumpet player in the 70's - we
used to go buy the sheet music to conquistador and play along with the
records... great fun! :)

I got to see him a couple of times and was impressed - he still could
play ALL through his life...
