View Full Version : Software for sound spectrum analysis
Hi there, I'm looking for the best software for analysing the sound
emitted by acoustic instruments (guitars, harps etc). I also need to be
able to compare two sound sources for obtaining the best amplified
sound (i.e. piezo vs microphone). I've looked at cool edit and a
program called Spectrogram
(http://www.visualizationsoftware.com/gram.html). I've also considered
the waves plugin bundle for cubase sx (which has frequency analysis
plugins). Which programs/plugins give the best value for money and
audio detail?
Any help appreciated
thanks

When you say, 'obtaining the best amplified sound', it seems you are looking
for a qualitative judgement, something that software is unable to do. Now,
if what you want is double-blind testing software, that might be useful.
Google that.

I seriously doubt that you are looking for the best software, you are
probably looking for something that will work well in your application for a
reasonable price.

That's a completely different application. Try starting here: www.pcabx.com

Well, they do spectrograms. But, is a spectrogram what you really want?

Here's a tip - download the cooledit (now called Adobe Audition) demo from
Adobe's web site, and play with it for a month for free. By then you'll know
a lot more about what you are looking for, or not.
