Why did my stereo burn up?

I installed a Pioneer DEH740mp in my 2003 chevy silverado about a year
ago.Until now it worked great. Well I bought a new amp for my door speakers,
so I wanted to pull out my stereo to see if I had RCA jacks for front and
back. Anyways, I did this with the power on and I know I shouldnt of, but I
pulled out the stereo and tilted it down to look at the back of it and then
it just started smoking up a storm and died. After it smoked up, I checked
all the wiring and everything was intact and no bare wires were exposed. So
I cant figure out why this happened. I replaced the fuse and this thing is
dead. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

You must have shorted something. How were the wires connected? With crimp
connectors or with electrical tape? If with tape, the adhesive on most
electrical tape doesn't hold up well, so when you moved the unit you could
have made something touch which shouldn't. At this point it is time to take
the unit to a Pioneer authorized service company. Best case you only have a
trace burned off the circuit board which won't be too expensive, worst case
the unit is deep-fried, which will mean an expensive repair or replacement.
No way to tell without disassembly and evaluation. If you don't have a local
shop you trust you can send it to us, we are a Pioneer ASC. Our bench fee is
$15.00 and we call with an estimate before repair.
