depends how good they are - i need to replace some 20 year old speakers with
some equally as good - these were around £25 (they were included with a £400
midi system) - dont want powered speakers, just regular ones
+ 20 years appreciation makes what - around £100
+ 100% stitch-up makes brings me to around £200
so, can i get any good ones for around £200? prefer to stick to british, if
they still make them
if there's some outside my budget that should get a mention please do - i
dont want to spend more than my amp, but i prolly spend bit more if i hear
what i want

I'd get a used pair of Tannoy MxM-2s then. Nothing, IMO, will sound as
good for as little money.
If you can stretch your budget, look at a pair of Tannoy S6 L/R
bookshelf speakers or a pair of oldfer KEF speakers in mint
condition. JBL 4400 series are also good. They have a mellow
"80's" sound to them as well.
If you aren't too put off with towers, there are
many better sounding models to be had for maybe £300 or so,
used - just sell the stands.
I'd recommend selling the old ones and stands and looking
into about £300 on a set of used towers.
A few examples:

This is the Saturn replacement. IMO, it doesn't sound *quite*
as good as the S6 L/R, but it whomps on the MxM and Revolution
lines. Bass is a bit thin, though.

Not as accurate midrange, but better bass. Nice speaker, actually.
JBL 4408As are about $299 each in the U.S., and quite a bit less
used. If you can find a used pair near you, it should sell for
quite a bit less.

Used speakers are often a good deal. :)

I'd rate these as simmilar to the Tannoy MXm-3 towers.

This seems to be a steal, though they will need a bit of TLC and
likely re-foaming. £100-£150 should easily cover it.

Which speakers were the old ones and which were the new ones?

for the full story see my link below "they dont make em like they used to" -
well semi-full story - i didn't include that i have also got a jpw 200 watt
passive subwoofer (around 10 years old) connected (which is my pride and
joy) - hence i dont want towers - just pair regular speakers with fairly
dynamic range - i really like look of those tannoys on ebay you posted

The Harbeth Monitor 30s. But they're $3200 a pair.

Of course! Spendor, Harbeth, Epos, Quad,
ProAc, Ruark, and many, many more!

The new Epos ESL-3s are very nice for $300.

The Quad bookshelf speakers might also be in your range, or slightly above.
The smallest model runs about $650 here.

for £200, the usual suspects listed by What Hi-Fi come to play ...
- Acoustic Energy Aegis Evo 1 (£180). I have only listened to the
older model, but I assume the newer model should sound similar.
Excellent speakers, fairly netural but a bit bass light (as you would
expect from a bookshelf speaker)
- Monitor Audio Bronze 2 (£200). They were on my shortlist, but I
found them to be a bit bright, and they were a bit over my budget.
- Mission m71i (£130). I believe they have now been superseded by a
newer range (m50 somthing?). I like the Mission sound in their budget
range, not to every one's taste, but give them a go.

As someone else mentioned, the Quad 11L is meant to be pretty good for
£300.
Add the B&W 601S3 to your audition list as well.

The Sensys 1s are fine if you have a passive sub. I'd offer up to
200-250 for them - if the seller doesn't have the reserve met, then
haggle with him. What happens in that case is the 1st and 2nd
place bidders usually evaporate and he has to re-list it or
settle for even less.
I think they would be good speakers, even if they are a bit
reminiscent of a Dalek. :)

The Tannoy Sensys Dual Concentric models are superb - much better
sounding than the B&W 601S3. But 405 pounds is pricey. That pair
on Ebay.UK should go for half that, which is probably his best deal,
since they look basically brand new.
