I recently got my 2-year old CD/MP3 player stolen from my '97 honda
civic, and I'm looking for something new. I thought that it would be
cool if I could find something that I could plug my portable MP3 player
into. Then I thought, what if I got something really cheap that no
thief would want to steal?

So, basically, what I'm looking for is a way to put an amplifier in,
with wiring for a stereo 1/8" jack input (from the portable MP3
player). I think 40 watts x 4 would be a sufficient, no volume
control, no AM/FM receiver, no CD player, even no face.

I guess my question is, is it possible to wire an 1/8" jack to an amp?
Maybe with a stereo 1/8" male to dual RCA jacks, ala:

Would an MP3 player (Creative Zen Vision M) be able to drive the amp?

Comments appreciated. Thanks.

Yes this would workas long as the stereo has preamp in... and get 2
spliters to hook the left up to both left channel and the same for the
right....

Thanks.

Does it degrade the signal to split it like that?

I figure I'd better check the output voltage of the portable media
player and match it with the low input voltage of the preamp, as well.
