View Full Version : 4 subs one amp

July 10th 06, 09:45 PM
Hey guys ,
i have a hifonics bx 1000w and i would like to put 4 pioneer 12" svc
subs to get the amp at 1 ohm 1000w .I heard the more speakers u add
raises db .
Or should i install 2 dual 4 ohm subs instead ...
An advice will be apreciated..
Thanks Don.

If you are looking for sheer dB, then the more subs the better. The more
cone area you add, the more "sensitive" the entire system becomes. In other
words, one watt applied to four subs will be louder than one watt applied to
two subs. This is why sensitivity numbers tend to always be larger for
larger cone speakers, more cone area. Dual vs. single voice coils does not
matter, it is pretty much a matter of cone area.

Thanks MOSFET
Well i 'll go with the four subs..
one last question i wanted to have 2 sealed boxes and two ported
boxes..
Sealed boxes have tighter bass response and ported boxes have deeper
bass response.
I guess i wanted best of both worlds....
Is there any problem with set up?
Thanks Don...

There is no problem with that, but you have got it wrong. Some people like
tight bass, some deep bass in combination with frequency. Some like to have
resonanse at 27 some at 40. You should decide what you like. It is not that
the bass will sound good if tight bass is pounding deeper ;)

Hey just for fun, let me know how crappy it sounds when you're done. I can see
a few problems that you might run into with this setup, Cancellation, peaks,
uneven power handling beween the ported and sealed boxes.

Hey thanks guys for all of the input....

I think i will go with 4 ported enclosures....

Are u saying use single chamber for the 4 subs?
How do u caculate the volume ?
Do u jus add up the cf. for each sub?

yes, use a single chamber for all 4. calculate the volume the same as
if you just had 1

if the recomened size of a ported box is 1 CUFT you would make a box
that is 4 CuFT, well slightly bigger to all for displacement. the subs
and ports will ocupy room in the box, the useing up som of the air

And regards to the ports.
as its 4 subs put 4 ports?
or is it different for single chamber?

for one easier construction, more flexible with the air space, and they
act as a large woofer instead a bunch of smaller woofers, i prefer
single chambers.

slot ports, do one, if there aeroports it depends on how much port area
you need
