best setup for heavy metal/grunge/rock/industrial

I have recently came into a lot of money and want to upgrade my system.
I currently have a 2001 silverado regular cab, pioneer DEH-P77DH,
factory speakers in the doors, and back pillars, and an old JL sub that
was repaired and given to me with a ****ty walmart amp.

I would think the head unit is fine, but the speakers really do need
replaced. Now there isnt a whole lot of space behing my seats or below
them for that matter. So space is limited. My goal is too **** off the
old people at the stop light with the window up. They should be able to
hear the cuss words, and feel the bass. any suggestions?

Those old people are probably grandparents. Do you have any? Would you
want some moron blasting away at his stereo on purpose just to annoy or
scare your grandparents?

If you answer yes, then I suggest you take that money you just came into and
consider buying yourself some common sense.

You need to understand that the issue of boom cars and how they disrupt
people's lives comes up all the time in this discussion group. I know what
you meant, but you picked a rather poor analogy. I LOVE BASS MYSELF. I
have a pair of 12's and love to crank them with rap and techno (you can see
pictures of my system at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2359697). But I am
also careful not to do this in a residential neighborhood or where I would
offend others. Statements like yours, unfortunately, are used by those who
are ACTIVELY SEEKING legislation that would put higher fines and/or jail
time for repeat noise offenders as well as making large subwoofers difficult
to purchase. These organizations are well funded and have the ear of
lawmakers. Of course you are not the only one who likes to make these type
of claims, advertisements for audio gear (for YEARS) has emphasized the fact
that their products will allow you to annoy your neighbors. It just, as a
sport, we are finding we must be VERY sensitive to this issue. But I
understand that what you were saying was more a joke, not a deliberate
intention to annoy. It's just that many out there these days ARE NOT
LAUGHING.

Now, on to your question....

The trouble with asking what to buy is that you will get a different
response from EVERY person here. When it comes to front speakers, the best
advice I can give you is to listen to as many different brands as you can
WITH YOUR TYPE OF MUSIC. Go to stereo shops with all your CD's and just
listen. Speakers are a very personal matter (they will effect the sound
more than any other component) and what sounds good to me may not sound good
to you.

With subwoofers, I have a pair of MTX MXS12's (they are the same as MTX's
7500 12"s) and I LOVE THEM. The are AMAZINGLY TIGHT. Before these, I used
a pair of JL 12W3's in a sealed box and these MTX's are MUCH LOUDER
(obviously, partly because now they reside in a ported box), MUCH, MUCH MORE
TIGHT! So I guess I would recommend MTX. If you have money to burn, the
MTX 9500 subs are INCREDIBLE. Of course, JL's 13W7's are great as well as
Image Dynamics IDMax series of subwoofers. Those three would be on my short
list if cost were no object.

As far as amplifiers, there are WAY too many good ones to mention. But you
will definitely want to go Class D for your sub amps as they are MUCH more
efficient.

The other thing you need to think about are all the OTHER things that are
not quite as sexy, BUT JUST AS IMPORTANT. I would HIGHLY recommend
extensive use of sound deadening products like Dynamat. A deep cycle
battery is a must (like Optima's Yellow Top). You will need large gauge
power cables and I would also recommend high-quality twisted-pair
interconnects (I use Phoenix Gold's Zeropoint series). A larger alternator
may be necessary if your amps draw considerably more power than what your
stock alternator puts out. I would certainly use capacitors (I use 5, for a
total of 4 farads), but caps only smooth-out the voltage, they CANNOT
produce power (the same goes for a second battery, which I DO NOT
recommend), only an alternator can produce power.

basic understanding of car audio.

the fact that you say it's a regular cab leads me to believe there isn't a
whole ton of room for amps, subs, etc. now I would suggest what others have,
listening to a bunch of speakers with the music you wll be listening on most
of the time. but, I would definetly suggest getting an amp for whatever
spekers you do end up going with (not powering them off the head unit) now
as far as bass goes, I think a single 12" should do more than enough in the
small amoutn fo air inside your regular cab truck. I personally have a
pioneer 12" sub that I love, and it was rather cheap on ebay. but in your
suitation you going to probably have to find out what size box you can fit
in your truck (by size i mean in cu ft) and then find a subwoofer that will
work in that box.

Those "Old People" probably invented Rock and Roll.
If "a lot of money" is enough to sort your car audio, you need to
redefine "a lot of money".
For me, "a lot of money" would buy me a 911 with a full custom install,
Nav/DVD/DAB, stealth boxed subs, and seperate front/rear/sub amps.

I don't have a lot of money. And I'm very nearly an old person, and I
happen to like the same kind of music as you.
So, opinion, Laibach, Big Black, or Rammstein?
