ha, good luck. I don't think you can get the ones at radio shack for
that little, and they only go up to 130 db's I think, and aren't as
accurate as the good ones.

The only dB meters I know for around that much are both Radio shack models.
One is an analog model for about $35 the other is a digital unit for about
$55 If you look on Ebay, however, you may find one of these two models for
sale much cheaper than their list prices.

I use the digital unit from Radio Shack to calibrate my system and have had
no problems with it. I believe it's accurate enough for basic calibration
work (like using 1/3 octave pink-noise test tones to set an EQ). As was
already mentioned, the main drawback with BOTH these models is that they
only go up to about 130 dB, so if you plan on using this meter to measure
the maximum dB level of your "Ground-Pounder", forget it.

I have a digital radio shack meter, and it reads accurately up to 126
db, it doesn't go any higher than 126. Cost about 30 dollars. Of
course, if you want to get higher readings, you will have to sell all
your major organs and your house.

The digital meter I have has a range of 50-126 dB, however the analog meter
WILL go up to 130 dB, that was what I was referring to.

BTW, the digital meter from Radio shack can be had for $49 bucks. See the

The analog ones are cheaper a better for most measurments. Digital
can't show you fluctuations.

The digitals have always been 30$ around here, but may be differen't
where you guys are. At the bottom of the screen on the digital one, it
has this line of bars that changes whenever there is an increase or
decrease in volume. I think it does show fluctuations. I have watched
that bar go up and down a bit, but the db reading not changing until
the bar gets to max, or min. I'll go check it out real quick. I'd like
to have an analog meter though.
