View Full Version : Multiple 1/8" Mini inputs

I'm new to the group, but I thought somebody might have encountered
this before. I would like to use both an MP3 player and a radar
detector on my motorcycle. I'm looking for a small (ideally switched)
>1 input to 1 output 1/8" audio joiner. The idea being, when the radar detector goes off it either shuts off the MP3 side output or at least allows the radar to go over the top of it. Any ideas?

It may cause noise issues, but you could just get a headphone splitter
and join the two signals togeather. About anywhere will sell them for
under 5 bucks. This would let your mp3 player play, and then any radar
beeping to join with the signal, and both should be audiable.

Your other option is to get a 4 pole 2 throw toggle switch, wire both
inputs to it, and have one output. Then you would have either the mp3
or the radar sound going to your motorcycle, changable by the switch.

Wouldn't there be a gender issue with the headphone splitter? That is
precisely what I was thinking at first, but I haven't found one that
would take two inputs and join them into one output.

A manual switch wouldn't work because you wouldn't know when to throw
it. If I knew the detector was going off, I wouldn't need the audio.

I dont think gender should be an issue becuase pretty much whatever
cable you want there will be one out there, and if not they are a piece
of cake to make. I dont know, however, what you consider an input and an
output. Is an input female and an output male, or the other way around?
As far as this cable is concerned, there are no inputs and outputs,
everything is common, but there are male connectors and female
connectors.

Here is 2 female to 1 male, I am guessing thats what you want.

I wouldnt join the signals together, you risk the chance that you may
blow one or more of the output amplifier circuits.

He dosent want it switched, though. He will have to take the risk.
