View Full Version : Speaker replacement issues

Hi All,

I finally got around to pulling off the door panel to my 2000 jeep
cherokee to install the boston acoustic 5 1/4 speakers i bought from
crutchfield only to find out the "easy fit" guideline did not even come
close to being true. the speakers were a good 3/4 of an inch to small
to go back into the original screw holes. WTH?! I have heard good
things about crutchfield and such, but this really sux. I called them
and all they could say was maybe your model was changed in the middle
of production...blah blah. They are sending me some brackets that are
supposed to fit into the hole and hold the speaker...just dont
understand what the deal is. anyone else have issues like this with
them? if i get the brackets and still does not work, is my best bet to
just go to a local store and take my old speaker to make sure i get
somethign that fits?!

TIA,

R

Now I can't speak for everyone here, but MANY people on RAC are of the
opinion that Crutchfield offers little value. What I mean by this is that
Crutchfield's prices are no cheaper than your typical "Best Buy" or local
car audio dealer, YET it is a mail order company and therefore you must deal
with all the headaches that brings (you must wait for your product to be
delivered, you can't hear it first, returns are difficult, etc.). In my
book, there are two ways to go: A) if you know A LOT about car audio (and
know to install it yourself) then buy from a deep-discount mail-order
company or Ebay or B) if you are new to the world of car audio choose a
reputable local store and go with them, they will help guide you through the
process AND you can listen before you buy.

That being said, I do know that Crutchfield tries hard to make it easy for
it's buyers to install their gear, and generally speaking their customers
are satisfied. Hopefully the adaptor will solve your problem.
