View Full Version : Tweeter installation

May 11th 06, 12:04 PM
Good Day,

I've spent the last few days reading around this group for answers to
my questions. From all the posts and threads that I've read, I
definitely think that someone here will be able to answer my questions.

I am going to install a pair of 4ohm tweeters in my car in the next few
days. I understand that these tweeters come with their own "crossover
network". I simply need to know the following:

1) When connecting the crossover, do I connect it to the existing
speaker wires powering my 6.5 inch Infinity's?

2) Can installing this combination of equipment on the same "wire" be
harmful to any of my components? The input is being provided by my
headunit (Pioneer DEH-P3500).

3) When connecting the crossover, should I rig it up in parallel or in
series?

4) Is there anything else I should be aware of in terms of installing a
crossover and tweeter before I begin.

These tweeters were a gift and I am looking forward to installing them,
however, I do not want to endanger the existing setup that I have, the
one I actually paid for in the first place.

Hopefully one of you car audio gurus can shed some light on my
questions.

Thanks!

Yes, you can use the same wires

As long as there hooked up correctly, no harm will be done

It depends on the xover that came with the tweeters.
If it just has 2 wires on the xover, then it will go in series on the
positive wire
Some xovers have an input and output, where you would parallel the input
from you 6-1/2's, then run the tweeters to the output of xover.

The only other advise, would be placement of the tweeters.
You want to try and keep them within 18" of the 6-1/2's.
Tweeters are also line of sight for the sound output, so you do not want
to place them where they may be blocked by obstructions (seat, dashboard
etc).
Best place is usually high in the door panel or A pillers or top of dash

Thanks e-nigma! So if I understand you correctly, I will determine the
circuit configuration based upon the wires on the crossover. Seems
simple enough. To be honest with you, I just want to make sure that I
will not damage either my 6 1/2 or my headunit. I understand there is
always a risk, however thanks for helping me minimize it!
