I went with 6x8 Infinity's and 6x8 MTX's. Both have similar specs. The
MTX are in the rears and they sound considerably flat. With my OEM
speakers the sound was pretty much even. The Infintityt's actually
sound better than the one's I heard in the showroom.

Is there some kind of a conflict or incompatiblity issue going on here
between the speakers?

The only thing that is really going on here is that the infiniy's are
likely a better speaker than the MTX. Infinity's usually have pretty
good tweeters. A good tweeter is sure to make the sound more lively.
Also make sure that the speaker wires are in phase with the MTX
speakers. I personally am a fan of infinity (speakers and subs) for a
their value, and never have been to fond on MTX.

I would make sure that the speakers are installed right, make sure that
the (+) wire form the head unit goes to the (+) terminal on the
speaker. Often the woofer cone will sound okay, but the tweeter will
suffer when in the case of the (-) wire being connected to the (+)
terminal.

As for your concern with the head unit not supplying enough power, it
is true that some speakers are power hungry. Check the power handling
on each speaker. The one with the higher RMS power handling should be
the one to demand more power. Generally with head units each channel is
seperate so turning the fader on rear should not effect the SQ.

Not almost, it's likely a certainity. Head unit internal amplifiers are
weak and can be easily driven into clipping during dynamic peaks. If
you've ever used an external amplifier with a proper amount of power,
you'd know there's no going back :)
