Hi,

I have an old Sony cassette car stereo with the tape dragging mechanismm
broken (but not the loading one)
Actually I use a cassette adapter with an external source with modest
result.
I opened the adaptor and I seen that the signal cable is directly attach
(apart three resistances) to the
head.
Now I was thinking if is possible to attach the external signal after
the car stereo head units and bypass the double conversion of two head
units.
Theoretically I would have to obtain better quality with an home made
LINEIN input

Is possible?

The signal from the cassette head goes to the pre-amp stage then audio
processing and then amplifier. You can put the line in at the output of the
pre-amp of the sony cassette player. But this would require external help.
Or search for any online service manual of this deck.

There is also EQ built into that preamp to make up for the head frequency
response.
