I currently have the MB Quart QSD 216 set and I'm not quite sure about the
quality of my mid-bass. What do yo guys think of those drivers and would
you recommend another one?

How come you haven't elaborated on your previous SQ thread? It took off
without you!

Never heard it before. How do you have it installed though? In the
doors? kicks? some kind of enclosure? externally amped or powered by
head unit?
Usually you can change the sound drastically just by externally amping
and/or a proper enclosure.

Well, I have never used THOSE particular drivers but I was using MB QUart's
PSD216 6.5" driver. I would have to imagine that these are very similar
drivers as mine represent the next-to-the-top line while yours are the
top-of-the-line.
First, they were REALLY inefficient. I ended up having to use AT LEAST 100
watts per channel to make them sound decent. FORGET ABOUT running them off
a HU.
Second, I never thought I was getting the midbass out of them I should. So,
I recently sold just the midbass drivers and bought a pair of JL VR650 (6.5"
midbass drivers) and kept the Quart tweeters. It's like night and day. The
JL drivers not only produce MUCH more midbass, but the sound is so much more
open and unconstrained. EVEN MY WIFE noticed a HUGE difference when I
switched midwoofers. I like the Quart tweeters, but my experience has been
the midbass drivers SUCK!!!
I know bi-amp the set (Quart tweeters and JL midbass drivers) so I can
control the X-over point perfectly. I am VERY happy with the sound.

What's the story with the "crossovers integrated in the wiring":
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9715965928&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX_Stores
? Pure BS?
The price seems suspiciously low. I can't find these on crutchfield,
so I turned to ebay. What's good price for these and how do the
tweeters
sound? The stock tweeters on my Outback Sport are piercing thru my ears
on "Acoustic Curves" in Animusic 1 :-(

I have no idea what "integrated through the wiring" means. I have never
heard of THAT before. I think they should have a typical set of outboard
X-overs. Perhaps this seller "lost" the real x-overs and is going to give
the buyer a 100 micro-farad capacitor wired in series with the tweeter
(integrated through the wiring) and call that the x-over.
I would check out JL's site. I bought my VR650's used off Ebay, and all I
wanted was the midbass drivers, I did not want the x-overs or the tweeters
(I LIKE my Quart PSD216 tweets).

If you weren't so lazy and clicked on the link you would have noticed the
auction was for a "new in the box" set of JL TR650Csi components. The seller
didn't lose the crossovers, the TR's don't come with them.
It's an inline capacitor as you mentioned.
I heard a JL car at Spring Break Nationals a few years back and there was
good midbass to those drivers. Of course it had mostly to do with the
install I'm sure.

Is it done on the low end to reduce costs or not necessarily?
Does the external crossover goes into the door with the speaker or
should it be mounted
outside the door?
Thank you.

It just goes in the wiring between the mid-range and the tweeter. There
isn't anything to mount. It's probably an inch long and 3/8" of an inch
wide. You can look at the manual on jlaudio.com

Ok. Clear on CSi model.
Where do you typically put CXi crossovers? (about 5x3x1")

The manual strongly advises against sticking them into the door.

I typically build mine into my amp rack. You can put them just about
anywhere. Under the seat, in the trunk, under the dash, in the console, etc.
You can install them stealth, or show them off. It's really up to you.
