View Full Version : How do you remove stock HU of '97 Ford F-250 Power-Stroke Diesel?

MOSFET
May 2nd 06, 12:23 AM
I need some expert help, here. I'm doing a job for a friend and I am THIS
CLOSE to taking a LARGE HAMMER to his dash!!!!

I have mostly worked on foreign cars in the past so this is....uhm...foreign
to me. I have tried removing all the trim pieces close to the HU but that
sucker just won't come free, nor do I see how to release it. I'm beginning
to suspect I may need some special tool.

Any advice would be REALLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks,

MOSFET

If you see two holes on each side of the hu, you will need a U tool as I like
to call them. Walmart has them for about five bucks if you can some metal
wire you can make your own or find four screwdriver that will fit the holes
and get someone to help you

What Cpt. Howdy said.

And certainly a sledgehammer would work just fine!

Actually, Mr. Smarty Pants I did exactly that, and found NOTHING of any
help. Of course we all know Google can be a crap shoot. Sometimes a
question must be phrased a certain way before the links you REALLY want
appear.

Searching for "remove ford radio" was tough for me to figure out. Sorry if I
offended you Mr. Mosfet Sir.

OK, now try asking Google "how do you remove the stock radio from a ford
diesel?" and THEN see what responses you get back. THAT IS WHAT I TRIED!

The point is I DID try Google first.

And, as I've said before Mr. SP, if we all Googled every question there
wouldn't be much point in this newsgroup now would there. Frankly, you DID
irritate me because that happens to be my PET PEEVE (when people answer with
"try Google"). Like there's someone out there who has never heard of
Google. Here's a shocker for you, Mr. SP, maybe some people in this world
would prefer not talking to robots and some people in this world (like me)
ENJOY answering people's questions. So the next time you want to share your
fountain of car-audio knowledge with us with pearls of wisdom like "next
time try Google", just shut up and go have a nice long conversation with
your toaster, because obviously this is how you would prefer to communicate.

And something else, Mr. SP, (while I'm on a roll). I know that you are not
a regular so I could give a flying **** what you have to say. But when new
people come here and ask questions and then some dick-wad like you says "you
should try Google first", it MAKES US ALL look like a bunch of jerks (like
Cpt. Howdy).

So, on second thought, go away Mr. SP, and don't come back.

Look Mosfet....my post wasn't intended to **** you off, but I could really
careless if it did.

In your original post you said, and I quote, "need some expert help, here.
I'm doing a job for a friend and I am THIS CLOSE to taking a LARGE HAMMER to
his dash!!!!"
I would also like you to recall that I answered your silly question as well.

You were obviously frustrated that you couldn't remove a radio from a truck.
If you were that desperate, searching google for an instant answer would
have been your ticket. Instead you came to a group so someone could do the
work for you. You need one of us to come over and stick the U tool in and
pull for you too?

I was merely pointing out that you could have easily found the information
you needed with a simple search of 3 words and you wouldn't have to wait for
an answer.

Being a regular, as you consider yourself, doesn't make you exempt from
common usenet courtesy. I've been lurking and occaisionally posting here
since teamrocs was dominating the use of this group. Somewhere around
1998ish iirc. I don't post often because I don't have much to say and there
isn't much to answer. I don't enjoy answering "is this amplifier better than
this one?" questions. I certainly won't tell someone their Jenson amplifier
will sound fine with their MB Quart components. And if I were you, based on
your experience of shoving screw drivers through speakers, I would be afraid
to work on my friends vehicle.

One more thing....I won't pretend to be an internet toughguy and resort to
calling you a dick-wad. This is a public group and I'll post as long and as
often as I want. More than likely, I'll get bored with looking at your
budget, ghetto install and disappear in a couple months.

My God, the SOONER THE BETTER. You answer my post with a rude "why didn't
you check Google" and act like I should kiss your ass because you came down
on high from mt. Olympus and answered this mere mortal's question. I DON'T
care how long you've been on this group, I'm SURE I'VE BEEN AROUND LONGER (I
remember when Manville Smith from JL was always answering questions).

And then you proceed to insult me in every way you can think of. So let me
get this straight A) you rarely answer anybody's questions (while I always
do) B) when you do you feel that telling them they should have checked
Google is a great reply C) and then you proceed to insult the hell out of
someone when they point out that YOU (YES, YOU) were the one who was rude
and made the error in Usenet protocal. IF YOU REALLY DID READ THIS GROUP on
a regular basis, you would know that telling people to "go check Google" is
something most people here frown on. Again, as I said before, what would be
the point of this group if EVERY QUESTION COULD BE ANSWERED ON GOOGLE.

So, yes, by all means, LEAVE AND NEVER COME BACK!

Cool. You posted my pictures! Thanks!

You know, what would put me to shame, put me RIGHT IN MY PLACE, is if you
post pictures of your (I'm SURE) BAD ASS system. That would show me who's
the **** around here! Until then, I guess I have to imagine you have a
Kraco dual-post cassette deck and a pair of 6x9 dual-cones (Kraco as well)
sitting on the floor. Maybe (just maybe) an EQ booster? Perhaps? Maybe?

I personally don't like the idea of drilling in the back of seats or hacking
too many things, I have done the same in the past and most of my own car
installs look like a rat's ass. I have always been the type of person that
installs for maximum functionality. I'm not saying that you can't have a neat
install and be functional, but there are limits and too many cars have more
car audio bling then car audio performance. The fact that mosfet is a cheap
noob when it comes to car audio goes far with me. My electrical system more
then likely cost more then his whole audio system and yet his happy with what
he has and I'm always upgrading. For the most part I thought that his install
wasn't bad, other then those little L brackets that mount the box to the
floor. They look very easy to rip out. I think that the blue led light show
looks totally cool.

RAC users are always in need of perfecting the system. People seeking
perfection always tend to expect others to be perfect in all things they do
and say, and they are always impatient.

Can't we ignore the post by asking what did you gave the search term on
google. Ignore at least the first time!

That's a good idea. I take my watch off every time I EVER do any work with
my system. Of course, I had to discover this little rule the hard way about
10 years ago (about the same time I started employing capacitors)! I found
out the hard way that when working with a system with caps, turning off your
circuit breaker or unplugging a battery terminal is NOT ENOUGH!!!

Ford/Mazda Din Radio removal tool. VW and Audi uses the same tool on some
cars.

If you checkout ebay you can find radio toolkits for about $10-$15 that will
give you tools for just about any car that needs them. Ebay # 4637087507 and
4636184694. The Mercedes Benz tool is nice to have as it will remove 50% of
aftermarket radios as well.

Sorry I have to explain it to you. You posted and said that a particular
DIN tool would remove about 50% of OEM radios. To which I replied that I
would prefer a tool that would remove the entire radio. Get it? It's a
joke Captain . . .

See that's where you're wrong, I said "The Mercedes Benz tool is nice to have
as it will remove 50% of aftermarket radios as well". leaving the mounting
bracket and harness/ antenna cable in place. So I guess it would only remove
90% of the radio LOL. Unless you tape it to the end of wire cutters. LOL
