I have a Soundstream EGA1700D that was working and then began smoking and
the light comes on but there is no sound. I opened it up and some of the
parts are burnt, they are the pieces that screw into the chassis of the
amp. I think that thats all that is wrong with it, anybody know about
repairing amps?

What do you want to know? The parts that you are talking about are called
transistors. From what you are saying it sounds like you blown the output
transistors and more then likely a few gate resistors. looking at the fuses on
this thing 5x30amp you should have alot of transistors in there to deal with.
Why did it start smoking?

Well I wasn't there when the amp was fried, I am a shop owner and I had done
the install for a friend. He doesn't know squat about car audio so he has
no clue what happened....he doesn't know what clipping sounds like either.
He said the amp started smoking when he was listening to it real loud.
I basically want a crash course on amp repair, I am all about fixing stuff
myself, I have never been a fan of paying out the ass for a repair that I
could do myself, even if it takes just as much money to learn and get tools
and materials for the repair!
