View Full Version : head unit does not save settings
I have been having a weird problem ever since I had a new amp
installed. The head unit does not save bass and treble settings; no
matter what I previously changed them to, they are always set to 2 and
0 the next time I turn on the stereo. Anyone have any idea what the
problem could be?
thanks,
ashwin

Is it saving (or not saving) anything else, like stored radio stations,
CD position, balance/fader settings, etc.?
If not, check that the installers didn't blow a fuse on the
constant-power connection.

Or worse, both ACC and direct to battery leads has been clubbed to ACC
switch.

Matt and Vivek are right. It sounds like your HU (head unit) is no longer
getting a constant power supply. A typical HU is connected to TWO power
sources, a direct line from the battery AND a line from the ignition source.
The ignition source is hot everytime the key is turned, and this is what
tells your HU to turn on. But the battery source is critical too for saving
HU information like radio presets, tone control information, EQ information,
etc. when the HU is off.
It sounds like THAT connection (the battery source) is not working. It
could be as Matt sugested, because a fuse has been blown, or as Vivek has
sugested, the instaler has connected BOTH power leads to the ignition
source.
Check and see if your radio presets are also being "erased". If so, check
the fuse on the back of the HU. Hopefully, this is the problem.

My moneys on this .... I don't think the HU would turn on at all if the
constant 12V was not working, eg., blown fuse.

????????????? Why would it not turn on? It doesn't need the constant 12VDC
unless the primary power is off.

Well , replace yellow & red wire. red to yellow , yellow to red. It
could help
See ya.

He is correct. The ACC lead is similar to remote lead for amp!

Aside from what else has been mentioned, if it is just the bass and
treble settings, did you get a newer Alpine amp installed on an Alpine
HU using the Bassengine and Amplifier Link?

Used to be that way but now the B+ drives everything and the Ign is a
trigger. Think "remote turn on"
