View Full Version : Thorens headshell question

Hello--
Not entirely sure this is the right forum, but here goes. I've got a
turntable-related question: I was recently installing a new cartridge
in an old Thorens TD-165 headshell, and ended up stripping it. I've
found that tracking down TD-165 headshells is not necessarily an easy
matter, so I'm wondering if it's possible to swap the headshell from
other old Thorens models for the one on the 165. Thanks in advance for
any help on the matter--

I don't know if Thorens used the same tonearms for different models.
Which arm do you have?

Okay, Sander and Ruud: what's a 'klangtip'?

Without having followed the link, "klang" means sound, "tip" can mean
stylus, fee or just tip as in advice.
I'd say they mean a stylus, especially when this term is used in the
context of a "tonabnehmer", which is a cartridge.
If that isn't right, it could mean something like tweaking advice
("geheimtip" ) .

I'm afraid I don't have the table with me, but it has the original
straight arm with relatively deep 'female' sockets at the tip where the
headshell fits in. The four prongs (I'm sure these aren't the proper
terms for these things, so my apologies) on the headshell are about
twice as long as those on other tables' headshells. Hope that helps a
bit--

Google leads me to think you want the TP60 headshell for a TP16 tonearm.
This was offered beginning with the model 125, so you may have more
chances at salvaging one. Maybe $50 on Ebay?
Good luck!

I did a search, and it looks like that is indeed my headshell. Thanks
much,
