Is anyone using Yamaha MG10/2 mixer?
I need to figure out if I'm doing something wrong
or if it's just broken.

Whatever I connect to it all I'm getting is a very noisy output.
I tried both mic and line inputs connecting microphone and electric guitar
in all combinations,
with and without DI, I had to turn the gain and level knobs way to the right
from their normal operational range (according to marks on the panels)
[more gain, louder] to get any audible output signal.
I tried phone and line outputs with the same result
- noise or 60Hz hum or both plus a little bit of a signal.
Tried it with a DI, balanced XLR - unbearable.
Plain line-in - even worse.

All I have is a guitar, mic and a DI and I connect it
to my computer's soundcard and get a very clear sound,
but (what an idiot!) I wished for better setup when I don't have to dive
under the table to switch the wires back and forth and I got this mixer
and so far it's been such a frustration!

Somebody please tell me what the hell am I doing wrong?
Is it how it is supposed to be with analog mixers? Or is it just broken?

Sorry if I post to the wrong group and everything...

I'm not using it nor did I wait for the manual to download. I am
assuming that you are trying to feed the mixer into your computer.
The first thing to check in this situation, with any mixer, is are you
feeding the line output of the mixer into the microphone input of the
sound card. This would be wrong and would likely cause the problem
you described. The mixer line out needs to go to the sound card line
in.

beyond this, it's a difficult to trouble shoot more by e-mail.
