View Full Version : sennheiser HD540 reference2

December 7th 05, 09:03 PM
I have an old HD540 reference2 Sennheiser headphones which I want to
replace.
They served me well and I was very happy with them, but since they're
old they
need some parts replacements that costs almost like a new set.
I wonder where these headphones are positioned compared to the current
Sennheiser models, so I can choose a similar model or a better one.

Thanks.

Check out the sennheiser HD595. Heaps better than the HD540. A very
civilised and neutral headphone, easy to drive (especially the new 50
ohm units) and suitable for all music styles.

But when you listen, give them a chance to burn in. This applies to all
HPs.

The HD595 are very expensive here, I would choose them only if there's
no other choice.
But what about the HD555 ? How are they compared to the HD540 ?

Thanks.

Haven't heard the 555, but the general concensus is that they're a
less-refined 595. I'd expect them to improve considerably on the 540,
however. Go to one of the forums like head-fi and do a search; there's
heaps of reviews of both phones.
