Do there exist iPod-like desktop players?

-- a non-portable, desktop MP3 player with hard disk, jukebox-like playlist
firmware, connect to any audio amp or receiver. No computer needed to play.

Does anything like this exist now? Or soon in the pipeline. It would be a
boon for disk jockeys at dances, etc. Yes I know iPod with dock can connect
with regular audio equipment, but portability has tradeoffs.

Thanks.

The Creative Nomad Jukebox seried and the Archos Jukebox fit the bill
and are also portable. 1/8" stereo line out cable to 2RCA's for about
$6 at radio shack, and off you go.

You can create playlists using a computer away from the site and load
them into the player I believe so you don't have to use a small
display and interface ot build a massive playlist...but you can do it
that way too. Works plugged into the wall or off 4 AA batteries.

Audio quality is excellent. Both support WAV files too if you want to
get all linear and stuff.

Best Regards,
