Folks-
I am looking for a mono bridge (kit) for a Dynaco 400.
Anyone know of a source?
Thanks!

No but any bridging adapter should work. Relatively easy to
construct. Nakamichi made one, too.

Stock Dyna 400s are a poor choice for bridging into low
impedance speaker loads. While they will drive 4 ohm
resistive loads (IOW an 8 ohm resistor, bridged) reasonably
well, they are not up to modern standards when it comes to
driving reactive (speaker) loads. This is the main reason
why the Dyna 400 was replaced by the Dyna 416.

However, if you have a source with truely active balanced
outputs, you can construct a simple cable that will provide
an appropriate signal for bridging just about any two
amplifiers. Just hook the pin of the 2 RCA male connectors
to the + and - signals on the balanced output.

Mark, I owned and enjoyed an ST-400 for years, always in the stereo mode. The latter years, driving some rather difficult low impeadance speakers. Replacement of the weak 4 transistor per channel output, became an all to common and rather tiring thing. You're really asking for trouble bridging a stock unit for use with modern speakers. If you must, the Greg Dunn Dynaco page shows the MBI-400 bridging layout. In the mid 90's, I upgraded my ST-400 with Sound Valves ST-416 output section, doubling the units ouput transistor count. No more blown output transistors after that. A few months ago, I sold this unit on eBay. Somebody's really rocking the house with this thing. If you can find an upgraded unit like this, then bridging should be fine. As for bridging a stock unit, forget it.

Thanks (all) for the advice. I'll be keeping this puppy in
stereo mode.
