View Full Version : Converting digital out to analog
November 18th 05, 01:52 AM
Hi,
I've deployed A-Bus technology to provide music in various zones in my
home. Biggest drawback is that the input to the A-Bus system is via
analog stereo phono sockets ("audio in"). My current music system only
has one output - the square-style "digital out" type.
How can I convert from this type of digital out to analog stereo?
Cheers,
Neil

DAC = Digital to Analog Converter. What, btw, is a "square-style"
output? USB, TOSlink?

Kal,
The "square style" output is one of those that sends a pulse of red LED
light down a little black cable. That's about as technical as I get on
this subject! (Apart from I know it's not USB...) Yeah, actually I
think it is TOSlink, based on the article I just checked out:

Are there inexpensive DACs available that accept this type of digital
input?
Regards,
Neil

Yes, it is TOSlink and, yes, most inexpensive DACs will accept this. I
cannot recommend one since all I know about are expensive ones!
Try MCM or PartsExpress at their websites.
