I wonder how that compares with George Eastman's 129-rank home organ.

Eastman's organ was actually two organs with one console.

According to

http://www.atos.org/Pages/Residences/Sanfilippo/Sanfilippo.html

the Sanfillippo organ has "80 ranks"

That's good. I don't know how to guess ranks from the Forbes article
pipe count.

Theatre organs kick ass.

So do non-theatre organs.

I can see spending $2 million on a house organ a lot better than I can see
spending $200,000 on a home stereo. Live music rules! Besides, you can hire
a lot of really-pretty-good musicans for lots of play dates for $1,800,000.

Obviously, since you should know by now that I love to make live musical
recordings, including those involving pipe organs.

Interesting. A local man also did this. He built a pipe organ into his
house, with pipes extending all the way to the ceiling.

The stated purpose: to test his hifi system, which at the time had Phase
Linear 400 amps and Bose 901's.

I understamd. He needed the pipe organ to drown out the Bose.

Well, that's one way to do it I guess. Just goes to prove that you can
make Bose sound good with enough effort.

A real Bose hard case, eh?

I guess that if you had a pipe organ in your house, you would be
sitting in a room surrounded by pipes. That is about the only kind of sound
field that the 901's could reproduce with any believability.
