Kinda, For standard issue batteries I have always had good luck with
die-hards and Sears' great warranties.

I have an Energizer in the lawn tractor, we will see how it does over the
winter :)

Batteries, like any other branded item, has it's supporters and
detractors. Personally, I've used Diehards since the very early 70s,
but I've heard others knock them.

IIRC, there are really only about three companies that make batteries
in the USA (like Union Carbide), and they send them out under a great
many different brand names. A user could be knocking a battery brand
and raving about another, and they are both made by the same company.

The Die Hard used to be one battery. Today, it comes in different
levels (Gold it the best I think, IIRC).

I think it's how well the company you buy from backs up it's warrantee
that counts for a lot. Sears used to be really good. In fact, they
used to exchange batteries 'no questions asked'. From what i hear, now
you have to fight with them.

My last battery, I purchased from COSTCO, and it was great (sold the
car, so it may have died the next day).

I just put a 10 year old DieHard gold to rest. Not bad, I think it
actually ended it's live early due to the fact that the vehicle became
a weekend warrior and not charged properly via every day use.

That is where one of the battery tenders comes in... I kinda like the
Battery Tender Jr as a permanent install, so all I have to do it plug
it in; no dragging it out of the tool bin, etc.And the price is pretty
good.

cheap, very effective. Now I just gotta get power out to the barn :(

Hmmmmm Power to the barn.... let's see, got any cows? They produce

It would have to be about a 400' extension cord :)

No cows.

I have a 200A service in the house that feeds the house/garage#1/shop. I
need to go 400A and give the shop an extra 100A, the barn some power and
garage#2 power. The house has electric heat so the box is FULL of dual pole
breakers. No room for a break off to the barn. That and I don't look
forward to trenching 400' of wire! I'll wait till spring when the ground is
soft, we had a heck of a drought here this summer and the ground was like
concrete!

Of course there's always wind power and solar power. At least around
here you'd get a rebate for switching to clean generation.

Of course, we now have "forests" of propellers on the hillsides, with
blades they say you can walk inside. And fields of mirrors
concentrating sunlight on a water tower.

Tried to figure how to run an extension to the car. The wind tower
reeled it back in like a fishing reel. Tried the mirror idea and it
kept melting the car. Guess a thermos of water wasn't enough. Oh,
well, back to the drawing board.

I actually did solar charging for a long time for the 12V bench test power
and amatuer radio power. I sold the rig when I moved, Got more than I paid!

summer.... I really don't think I want to power anything I'm going to

Actually, it smells nicer than raw plain diesel fumes, runs cleaner and

Actually in the UK, as long as you don't tell "The Man" it is far
cheaper to use new clean Veg oil as a road vehicle diesel alternative,
usually with a specialist conversion, or as a 50/50 mix with Dino
diesel.

As a generator fuel you probably wouldn't even need to pay the tax that
you normally would a road fuel (under UK law anyway).
