Who makes a portable(walkman style)cassette tape deck that can turn on
or off Dolby noise reduction AND toggle between Type I(normal) and Type
II(CrO2) tapes. I love the digital world of CDs, MP3s and have a place
in my home for all that, but at work I have and use 20 years worth of
cassettes that I'm not about to convert(soon anyway). I can't find a
portable cassette that offers the above 2 options. SONY does have some
with Type I / II options but not Dolby C reduction. Anyone know of any
brands, or other forums I might check? Thanks, Phil

Aiwa made some great portable cassette players. I bought one in the
early 90s...digital tuner, recordable, metal/chrome/normal. Sold it
on Ebay. Check out Ebay.

I think that all cassete players, also the ones found in (european)
boomboxes very seldomely come with dolby b, because due to limited usage and
producing volumes the companies don't want to pay money to dolby
laboratories for the dolby b system, let alone a walkman with dolby c, it
might be possible on the encore days of the cassete, but now...

The Sony Walkman professional used to fit that bill. It had Dolby, and
extremely rare feature in a walkman. Since the cassestte format is dead,
you won't find any new ones. Look in the used market.

As for Type I and II, I think that is pretty much standard on all type
walkmans, so much so that they don't even mention it. To notice it,
sometimes the walkman will boast the ability to play metal tapes. Metal
and CrO2 tapes have the same type II equalization.

Suffice to say that what you're really looking for a is a walkman with
Dolby.

Hope this helps
