View Full Version : Someone give me amp suggestions

Chris Mullins

Ok so I am looking for an amp to run 100-200W @ 4ohm X 2channels. I want to
keep with the orion but right now my wallet just won't allow for it so what
is the cheapest i can get but still better than something bob wald would own
and brag about?

i'll probably upgrade to an orion eventually but i need something till i
have the spare cash.

What's your budget? And what are you going to be using the amp for?
You specified a 2-channel amp, but 100-200W per channel seems like a
lot for front or rear speakers.

6.5" components rated at 100W RMS but i would consider giving them 150 and
if the amp is rated at 200W and is horribly cheap i'd use that cause i could
guess its not going to actually give 200.

budged...i don't know i've seen some at or around 150, i was just wondering
if there was anything horribly cheap. I might even consider some Wald
brands just so i'll have sound till i have $$, something about me won't let
me splurge till i've bought x-mas gifts for the family

If it's only temporary, just hit ebay and grab one for $50 or so. Keep in
mind that many "off" brands may overstate their power output...

Just try to use your HU power until you do buy the Orion amp. It'll be 150
bucks in your wallet for the presents..

I'll probably have all my other channels tied up, tweets running off the
head unit, 6x9s off head unit, gettingyet another set of tweets to be ran
off my amp (the other tweets are 3.5s, i want some small 1" to put in the
back for a little rear fill, we'll see how it sounds) i'll b picking up some
this weend most likely, will probably follow MZ's post and just pick up an
e-bay cheapy, worst case is i blow it and use it as a paperweight

I never thought of that. I should really be doing the same thing. I have
another set of tweeters I'm about to install and I need to power my other
components as well.. So I'm about the same boat looking for an amp that'll
nicely power these babies.. 125x4..

He's never given any cogent reasons why he likes/trashes ANY
particular brands. For the longest time, he seemed to trash anything
that's widely-considered as "high end", but now that he's got this
unexplained raging hard-on for Alpine, that kind of throws that theory
out the window. I'm still waiting to find out what he has against
Orion, JL Audio, and any of the various other brands he's trashed.
