Hi Guys,
I need some help, I understand audio but am not good with car installs
themselves though I did install my amp and subs. I had a voice coil go bad
in the passenger side mid speaker on my '99 Silverado Ext. Cab. and am
wanting to replace them with components (since it shouldn't be to hard to do
the wiring and that's what's in there now) since I like being able to
control over the highs, mids and lows separately. The most of my questions
are about the stock mounting locations in the doors on this truck. The hole
in the door itself where the mid driver sits is about 5 1/2 inches and the
factory speaker was mounted in a bracket that accommodates a 6 1/2" speaker
and snaps into the door and the door panel rests against the bracket.
The tweeter is actually mounted on a bracket that's attached to the door
panel itself.
Lets say I bought something like these:

I see no mention of what types of brackets ship with them. I can reuse the
mid driver brackets by simply reattaching them to the new speakers and
popping them in, the tweets on the other hand might be a different story..
I, in the short period of time I've looked around the web didn't find any
brackets that would fit in the factory space however I'm sure I could make
something without to much trouble however if I have to do that I might mouth
them up higher on the door next to the window.
I guess what I'm needing to know is how most people go about an install like
this. I don't want to install junk in my truck because I want to eventually
add a 4 channel amp to the system when I change the HU (stock right now): So
I want a good quality component set with (hopefully) adjustable crossovers
that I can expand into in the future. I really don't think I can spend more
than $200 on this install right now.
If it would help I'll take some pictures tomorrow in the light and post them
on a website.

Adair

P.S.
Are the baffles shown with the link above worth spending money on?

You should be able to remove the plastic mounting bracket from the factory
speaker and mount the new speakers into them. Just about any regular size
6-1/2" speaker will mount back into them. for the tweeters, you will have to
make a bracket or just cut a piece of ABS plastic to cover the OEM tweeter
hole.
