Hi, there!

I have noticed that major high end brands do not support this technology.
ARCAM dropped it from the FMJ CD23T replacement, the FMJ CD33T. I
understand this technology is now owned by Microsoft.

Does HDCD make a difference in sound reproduction? Do I have to have HDCD
to really enjoy the music or having a decent CD player get the job done or
even surpass the HDCD quality?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Not necessary, but if a player you want already has it, good. I have a
CD23 and am occasionally surprised to find an unlabelled disc is HDCD
encoded.

True. Media Player 9 recognizes HDCD discs. Don't know if it decodes
them though. Anyone ?

It's generally thought that newer input recievers (filters ?) are
better than the HDCD one.

With that said I definitely like HDCD. I have a lot of HDCD discs. Do
you have any HDCD discs ? I'd say your question depends on your CD
library.

My DVD player plays DVD-Audio but is not spec'd for HDCD. However, I too
have bought "Redbook" CDs that I later discovered had a tiny HDCD logo on
the back. These universally sound great. Since I can't "do" HDCD, I don't
have a technological reason why. Maybe it's that more care was taken in the
recording/production process. Who knows. I still like it.
