I like to listen to my dance/techno music in the car on my way to work, and
I've realized that the factory speakers in my car just suck some major ass.
Even with the bass turned way up, it barely makes a thump. My brother in law
suggested buying all new speakers and an amp, and try that out for a while.
He has a nice amp and new speakers in his truck, and says it's great.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on what I could buy to make my car
thump???

there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of solutions. Do you just want
bass? you can just add an amp/subs but then you'll notice how much mid/high
your stock system lacks and you'll want to upgrade those. What is your
budget, etc.

Unfortunately, your not going to be able to get much of anything for only
$150-250.

From your previous post it sounds like you want to upgrade everything, your
looking more at $500-1000.

With that budget, the best "bang for the buck" would probably be a
powered subwoofer, along with some passive crossovers ("bass
blockers") so that your factory speakers aren't trying to play the
very low notes. They still won't sound as good as new component
speakers and an amplifier, but you might be surprised at how much
better your factory speakers sound when they're only having to play
mid-range and higher.

You can check out www.crutchfield.com to get some ideas, although you
may find cheaper prices elsewhere. Two pairs of 150Hz bass blockers
for your factory speakers will run about $20, and the remaining $230
in your budget gives you a choice of six or seven different powered
subwoofers.

Your best bet would be to add and amplifier and a subwoofer. as long as the
four 6-1/2" speakers are not blown you will not have to replace them.
Adding an amp on the four 6-1/2 will not make as big an impact on the bass
as adding a subwoofer.

You can buy a used amplifier and subwoofer on ebay for under $250. That
would probably give him the results he's after. If he builds the box
himself, he'll save even more.

I've looked online, and found a mono subwoofer amplifier for about $300. I
thought about buying that, and right now I have one rear speaker that's
cutting in and out. With the purchase of this, is it necessary that i buy the
wiring kit and capacitors?

I plan on buying what I need and having it professionally installed, I can't
risk blowing another sound system up!!!

maybe i missed it but do you already have the subwoofer to go with the amp?
what is the amp's RMS power rating at 4 and 2ohms. remember mono means only
one channel so match it with your subwoofer(s) correctly.

if you're tight on money profesionally installed might not be the best
option. its not that difficult to install a sytem, the only hard part is
being careful. Leave your fuses out and don't hook anything up till you're
done. but of course if you have no patience, definately pay someone else to
do it

i HIGHLY suggest buying your subwoofer/amp as a matched set. i don't mean
same brand or from the same supplier even. Just make sure you match wattage
with wattage. you don't want to end up with a 200W@4ohm amp and a sub that
needs 700W@4ohm

also note that generally speaking the lower you can run the amp the cheaper
it will be to get power. Meaning if you have a dual 2ohm sub you can run it
at 4 or 1 ohms. if you have a 1ohm stable amp then running it at 1ohm will
be cheaper wattage. so if you're going to run one sub or two subs, single
voice coil or dual will all change what size amp you might need

parts express has the soundstream exact 12s on sale right now for
139.95. I bought two and love them. I had the old reference 12s for many
years and replaced them when they quit working, with a 15" elemental
designs sub and never was happy with the set up. The two exact 12s were
dumped into the old box I still have and they still sound great even
with almost twice the volume. Much more musical than the Elemental
Designs. They are svc 4 ohm.
