The Man In Black caught the Orange Blossom Special to parts unknown. He

But this pales in importance to the death of John Ritter.

I wasn't playing you were. I simply tried to pay my respects to a great
artist. I can only assume that because it came from me, you chose to make a
snide comment in response.

What a ridicioulus tread, but there's all the reason in the world to have
been listening to his output over the several last years, "American
Recordings" vol. 1, 2, 3 & 4, americana at it's best

Yes, for people with demonstrated tastes, that would be true.
Why, I was listening to my vinyl copy of The Fabulous Johnny Cash just
a week ago. That was his first Columbia album, you know.
I also listened to Vol. 1 & 4 several times in the last month (the
first being my vinyl copy and the second being a CD copy that I
borrowed, because I haven't gotten around to buying it yet).
Living 4 miles from Baptist Hospital, where Mr. Cash and his wife
passed away, gives a peculiar resonance to his passing that is shared
with my fellow Nashvillians. The fact that I don't have to shed
crocodile tears might be seen as callousness, but I can guarantee you
that his passing is a pretty profound event for me, for Nashville and
for the world at large.
Digging at Mr. McKelvy, I would argue, is a worthwhile venture. You
should try it sometime after you get familiar with his output around
here. Sometimes "gallows humor" is called for. I'm sure that Johnny
doesn't mind.

At present my favourite Cash album is "Trail of Bitter Tears - Ballads of
the American Indian", a record that landed JC in all kinds of trouble
because of it's Lyrics written by one Pete LaFarge, a native American. I
found it in exelent condition in a Salvation Army bin 6 months ago, and if
you don't know it, check it out.

I've never heard that one. Thanks for the suggestion. I remember
something about a controversy years ago regarding Indians. Maybe this
was it.
I will say that his recent health problems had gotten me thinking of
all of the great Cash albums that I needed to get. The only other two
JC albums that I have are I Walk The Line, which I listened to about
two months ago (I seem to need to hear Hey Porter a couple of times a
year) and the San Quentin album, which regrettably, I haven't listen
toin a couple of years. But that's going to be rectified.
PS, all of the Cash albums are on vinyl although I own a CD copy of
the 1st American Recordings album in addition to the vinyl copy.

Truly sad about Ira. Helped raise the flag on Iwo Jima and died from
drowning in a mud puddle after an awful period of non adjustment back in the
states due in no small part to his American Indian heritage.
I don't use the term Native American because that term is an inventory term
invented by the government and none of the Indians I know ever use it. YMMV

Nonsense, unless you are referring to the increased propensity
of American Indians succumbing to the disease of
alcoholism.
At any rate, his heritage would not be the cause of social maladjustment.
However, his inability to deal with the prejudice and other ramifications
of being an American Indian in American society would be a cause.
Some American Indians have demonstrated the ability to deal with those
obstacles and others have not.
It is incorrect to ascribe one's heritage as a cause of maladjustment.
You probably konw this already, and I would chalk up your error
to bad writing skills. You've been following Krueger too closely, as of
late.

"Drunkard" or "Wino" are the preferred nomenclature.

If you're Brian McCarty, a noted racist who currently lives in
Australia, it certainly is.
That wasn't from Mr. Morein.
Brian has a long history of dissing Jews, so this doesn't come as any
surprise.

To answer your original question, regardless of what Mr. McKelvy said,
Native American is entirely appropriate. You can also say Indian, or
American Indian. You should *not* however, refer to an Indian male as
"Chief" or a female as "Squaw" unless you want a punch in the nose.

Depends on who you ask. Most Indians refer to themselves as Indians.
Perhaps they are aware that Columbus didn't believe he was in India as has
often been misrepresented. He actually referred to them as In Dios, (not
sure of the spelling) but inmeans "of God."
If you ask someone trying to be politicly correct they will likely say
Native American but that is an imprecise term at best that includes Pacific
Islanders, Eskimos, and others.
As I stated, I've never heard or met any American Idians who referred to
themselves as anything other than Indians.

It does include Eskimos. It does not include pacific islanders. It isn't so
much imprecise as it is a broad term for a broad group of people just as
calling people from Europe European is broad but not imprecise.

I certainly have and I actually know many native Americans. The ones I know
usually specify their tribe but when they talk about issues they usually refer
to themselves as native American. Every native American with whom I have
discussed this issue find the term Indian to either be degrading or simply too
inacurate.

They are Indians, just not American Indians.
I grew up in Washington state and now live in California both places have
lots of American Indians and nonoe of the ones I've ever met actually want
to be called Native Americans. Your expierience is different than mine.
