Ok just getting into recording live concerts and i got everything i need or thought i did, here is what i did.

went to radio shack and bought 4 mic cables then 2 matching transformer audio adapters so i could run each mic into the preamp then back out to eventually hook up to my JB3. So on the cable that has the audio adapter on it comming out of the preamp that will eventually go to the jb3 i bought 2 plug adapters 1/4 to 1/8. then got a dual 1/8 adapter thing so i could take both 1/8" and turn them into one hookup i can put into my JB3. So got everything set up then went to try to record but it wasnt picking up any sound, so im sure its something in the cables,

oh and also the plug adapters say mono on the box, thats all they had, is that my problem do i need ones that say stereo or what? well hope i can get some advice. thanks in advance!

Ouch. What'd that set ya back?

Okay, so far I'm picturing 2 XLR mics of some sort going into the
preamp with 2 mic cables going to 2 channels of preamp. What are the
other 2 mic cables for?

JB3 as in Creative Nomad Jukebox 3?

You're using a preamp, so that's a plus. The dual 1/8 adapter you'd
need for hte cabling you describe is one that might be hard to find.
Most that are sold are Y adapters that are intended to split headphone
outputs (1/8" stereo plug to two 1/8" stereo jacks in parallel). What
you want is one that has separate 1/8" jacks for right and left
channels going to a 1/8" stereo plug--I suspect that's not what you
have.

The easier way to skin that cat without doing it wrong is to get a
1/8" stereo plug to right/left RCA plugs, and put an RCA jack ot 1/4"
plug adapter on the end of each for yourpreamp connection. Radio
Shack sells these. This same sort of cabling is reusable to get your
ipod or whatever into your PA system, by the way.

Is you preamp registering signal from the mics? Are you sure you're
plugged into line in and not line out (I've done this before--doh!).

If you can return all the cables, you might be interested in my NJB
recording page for an alternate approach that's more portable:
