I need a walkman or portable player that has strong AM reception. I
want to listen to AM radio indoors at work and need a walkman that has
an above average AM reception quality. Any recommendations?

Antenna. It amazes me that any of those small devices
have any AM sensitivity at all with the limited size of
the antenna circuitry.

You could investigate some of those AM DX devices
that use tuned loops which you can place your walkman
inside of (using capacitive/inductive coupling between
the antenna and the receiver).

The problem inside offices is that there is so much AM interference from
lighting, computers, combined with concrete & steel construction, it is
unlikely that any receiver would work in that environment. You would almost
need an outdoor antenna. See

The Sangean DT200V is amazingly good for what it is. Just note that the
other Sangean models, even if newer and/or more expensive cannot match its
AM performance.

A Zenith TransOceanic is also good, but a connection to an antenna
outside the building will greatly help any AM radio get better
reception, more so than getting another radio, no matter how good its
internal antenna is.

I echo the suggestion of the Sangean.

If you'd like something more easily found in stores, look for (in order of
increasing performance)

Sony SRF-M37V
Aiwa CR-LC121
Sony SFR-M95 (discontinued) or (its replacement) SRF-M97

If you were working for me and only wanted to listen to the radio instead of
working,
then I would be telling to
"WALK MAN" out the door and find another job.
You don't get work done by having your attention taken by radio listening
