I'm flattered by all the attention but I'm also uneasy. I'm just a
supporting player here.
I realize that I have revealed way too much about myself because I like some
of you folks, even some of the ones I dislike. Nevertheless, it was not very
smart of me to do so.
I thought that I really wanted to get Howard outta here too because of
something he said to me privately when I first subscribed to RAO. But now
that he's gone I feel awful because he seemed to take it so hard. This game
is like boxing, a great sport until someone receives one blow too many. A
blow that ruins two careers.
I could assure you that I'm not the phony you think I am. But to what end?
To draw more attention to myself. I hope we can all agree that I'm really
not worth it. I'll try to be less competitive in the future if you let me
lose gracefully. My privacy is more important than stardom. :-)
Cheers,
Margaret

How mawkishly endearing such patter is.

So you're the one who hacked my computer some time back. My friends and
clients really appreciated those sick e-mails too. Too bad you cannot
restrain yourself and make it believable.

The March Gibbs defense? How novel!
Sorry, old girl, recurring phraseology and writing style between "boxing" Mags
and "audio" Mags is far too similar to lend any credence to your claims of
being an unwitting dupe in the whole matter.
Does your vituperative animosity stem from being raped by a black man?

Not a problem, Marge. Just one final question: Do you wear pushups or do
pushups?

Yes, Margaret, don't go. Just ignore the trolls.
I don't see where Styncho admitted to hacking your computer. If you suspect
somebody did it because of your Usenet posts, I'd look to Sebastien
McInturd.

Thanks Rob and George. I love you guys!
George, incidentally the last intrusion took place shortly after I
speculated who the latest "french act" on RAO really was...

Only 3 weeks are taken in the pool. If we blanket the whole calender through
the end of '05, Clerkie's return is practically guaranteed.

Howard was unprofessional and a fool. I'm glad he's gone and I'm glad he
won't be reviewing any more. I might consider reading some of those
magazines now.

Agreed.

This is only a hobby to me. There's room 4 all.

They're still crap.

I actually read some of HF's last contributions to $S (as they like to
call themselves) on the newsstand. An amp review had the usual
declaration of principles, tedious description of the product, shoddy
listening procedures (level-matching by ear), then a hand-off to David
Rich for "analysis," but no real testing because $S doesn't have the
test equipment to do it.
In another review, HF preferred synthesized multichannel over real
multichannel.

Hi Stephen,
Several years ago there was an irishman named Eddie the Eagle (forgot his
last name) who participated in Olympic skijumping events. His most notable
achievement was that he did not kill himself while jumping. He lacked
everything but courage and even the next to last finishers always jumped
twice as far as he did. There also was an olympic distance swimmer from
Africa who almost drowned while trying to finish his race (800m IIRC) due to
poor conditioning and skills. Yet, in both cases, crowds cheered wildly for
these "athletes" although the officials were less than happy. Of course they
made the news and many in the US learned for the first time that skijumping
existed, thanks to the "Eagle". I think at least Eddie has made a career out
of his Olympics stint.
I view Howard in the same light and believe that he shouldn't have been
driven from RAO no matter how stupid he is. Also, if someone chooses to
publish Howard's nonsense for commercial purposes, and other people actually
read and keep reading it, Howard definitely isn't the biggest idiot in that
scenario.
Cheers,
Margaret

Your point is well taken. Even if nobody actually reads Ferstler's stuff, the
publishers need something to fill up their rags.
I wonder if Harold's recent inheritance may have altered his priorities. Once
you join the enemy, it's hard to keep fighting against them.

I prefer synthesized sound.
Although recording the ambience at the venue sounds like a good idea, when
reproduced in the home, it doesn't come out of the surrounds at the right
place and the right time, and in the right perspective.
Ambience synthesizers take all this into account. They sound more realistic
to me.
I have experienced one exception. Someone on the sursound discussion group
sent me an Ambisonics B-format recording, encoded in DTS. I arranged a set
of Radio Shack Linaeums approximately in the required square.
The result was eerily astonishing. The audience sat beside me, clapping.
